Set up a QR menu for a Swiss restaurant

A practical workflow for languages, prices, table codes and service handoff, written for the team that has to run it during a busy shift.

Switzerland has four national languages—German, French, Italian and Romansh—but that does not mean every restaurant should publish every menu in all four. Choose versions that match your location and guests, and that your team can keep accurate.

Work through the setup in this order

  1. 1

Choose languages your team can maintain

Start with the language your guests expect at this location, then add versions that match your actual customer mix. In German-speaking Switzerland, everyday dialects vary; standard German is used for written communication. Keep dish names, descriptions and modifiers consistent across each published version.

  2. 2

Set one price source of truth

Choose the menu currency deliberately—CHF is the common starting point for a Swiss restaurant—and check that item prices, add-ons, receipts and online checkout agree. If a payment provider settles in another currency or charges separately, confirm that before launch.

  3. 3

Decide what the QR code should do

Choose whether it opens a browse-only menu, starts an order, or also offers online payment. Map each table code to the intended table, then confirm what happens after a guest submits an order and where staff see it.

  4. 4

Translate the full choice, not just the headings

Review dish names, descriptions, sizes, modifiers, extras, sold-out status and the allergen information your kitchen maintains in every language. Assign one menu owner to publish changes together so one language does not quietly fall behind.

  5. 5

    Rehearse one complete service path

Scan each code on a real phone, open the right language, change an option and submit a test order. Check table identification, kitchen or printer routing, displayed prices, receipts and the staff fallback if Wi-Fi, a phone or the ordering flow fails.
